Inspired

When my mom came to visit she brought me this stack of random papers she had been saving to give me: immunization records, articles about getting a new water heater, old pictures she had found shoved in the back of my closet at her house (yes that picture of me and my high school ex-boyfriend was shoved back there for a reason Mom). But in the stack was an article from the Dallas Morning News (you can read it here: http://www.neighborsgo.com/stories/28418) about this business that looks at the things you already own in your closet and makes outfits for you, and the prices are very reasonable which means you don't have to shell out tons of money. Now they will also help you shop if you want them to, but with the realities and pressures of the world today the thought of making what I already own seem new again really made me excited. And huge bonus is they take all the things you don't want anymore and donate them to a resource provider for victims of domestic violence. Alas they are located in Dallas so I'm out of luck there although I think I know what my mom might be getting for her birthday!

But the exciting news is one of the founders also has a blog! http://mikalynscorner.blogspot.com which is almost like getting the services for free. Her last post has inspired me to clean out my closet today. The weather has been beautiful all week while I was in the office, and now that it's the weekend its cold and rainy. No reason to go outside. So instead I'm going to get rid of all those clothes I never wear and then maybe I'll feel like I'm not fighting a losing battle with my closet when its time to pick out things for work (maybe I'll also be on time for work, oh who am I kidding?). Also her idea of grouping like items together in your closet, GENIUS! I know, I know its so simple but I have everything scattered all over everywhere in my closet and and once I decide on a short sleeved shirt I remember that it's still cold and I'll look like an idiot wearing it. Wouldn't it be nice if I had all my long sleeved shirts together so I could just look at those and go?

So I think my Mom cut this article out for me with a new career in mind since I'm pretty good at knowing what other people look good in, its myself where I have the problem. But since I love my job I'll leave that to the experts and try to work on my own outfit dilemmas. But if they ever open up here in Little Rock I know I'll be first in line for a consultation. Now it's off to do some major editing in my closet, I mean do I really need to be keeping that dress I wore to my high school graduation? Probably not. Wish me luck!

Luv

Look at my cute little guy. While I was upstairs cleaning he was down here sleeping away on the couch. He looks kind of upset that I'm disturbing him doesn't he?

My mom came for a very short, but good visit. She also brought me a Christmas gift that I didn't get when I was home because it was backordered. I have to say the "jewelry tree" is much cooler (and better looking) than I expected. Good job Mom!

Bargain Boutique

This weekend was my first Junior League Bargain Boutique. I wasn't very excited because as a new member I had to work rather than shop at the event, but I was pleasantly surprised. The preview party had great silent auction items and it looked like everyone had a lot of fun. I think it was great that we were able to let ladies from Partners for Hope come and shop the donated items for free before we donated the rest. And best of all we made money for our league projects. I wasn't really sure what it was all about so I didn't consign any items this year, but I definitely plan to consign next year. I even snagged a fabulous coat from Banana Republic for $55.00. Just call me a recessionista!

Unbearably cute valentines

Won't you be my Valentine?
The inspiration is teddy grahams and gummie bears in a cute little bag with a note

For my interpretation I found bags with bear faces on the front of them which takes the cheesy factor to a whole new level but really when can you not be super cheesy but at Valentine's Day. So the teddy grahams and gummie bears are inside the bear bag and the tag says "A bag of bear hugs. For Sarah From Margaret"

I have to say I'm pretty proud of myself on this one. Don't all my little valentines look so cute together?

It's almost done

So a few posts ago I wrote about how my Dad came into town and removed the last of the wallpaper left in my condo from the guest room. This weekend I painted the room and I am so happy it is almost done. The only thing left I need to take care of is the moulding which had been painted gray. Yes gray. It only has primer and ceiling paint on it right now (I do not have the steadiest hand for painting). So I do eventually want to add some paneling and picture moulding, but we'll have to wait for the budget to catch up for that one. At least now the room doesn't have 2 walls with half peeled wallpaper and 2 walls in bad need of another coat of paint. My mom won't know what to think when she comes to visit in a few weeks!

What the room looked like when I bought the place. Love the light and the doors to the balcony, do not love the wallpaper that had been there since they built these in 1972.

After wallpaper removal from my kitchen, entryway, and living room I was burned out by the time it came to the guest room. So a half done job was there for months. Ooops.

Then my Dad came and peeled the rest of the wallpaper away!! Aren't dad's the best?

Then I finally painted the walls and the room is finally looking like a nice room instead of a remodeling project gone wrong.
So the paneling and moulding in this room are kind of hard to see, but it is exactly what I want to do in my guest room. So hopefully I can make that happen, sooner rather than later!
