Desperately Seeking...

...Grown up flip flops. I love my flip flops and they are great for running errands. But what do you wear when you need something dressier than a flip flop, but don't want to bust out the high heels? And have you ever seen interviews with fashion designers, they all lament the flip flop like it is the worst invention ever. Kind of embarrassing how many of us mid-America folks love them.

Let me preface this with the fact that I am picky in the extreme in my sandal selections. I am shorter than short accentuated with short legs. NOTHING that wraps around, sits next to, or gets in the general area of my ankle is allowed, which pretty much knocks out 3/4 of the cute sandal trends out there now. I also have a weird issue with thinking my feet look fat. I swear I was one of the first to have the Tory Burch Thora flip flop (you know, the ones everyone has) in white no less, the perfect summer color. I wore them around the house for days trying to convince myself that my feet looked great in them. I called in second, third, and fourth opinions but they were all the same my foot looked decidedly chunky. When I returned them the sales lady asked me if I was sure, I could see her going through her mental rolodex of clients who were waiting for this shoe in my coveted size eight. With a huge sigh of regret, I told her I was sure.

So you can see this search is difficult for me and I have exhausted my resources in Little Rock. Good thing I'm heading to Dallas this week. I'll have to squeeze in a visit to the mall where hopefully the stars will align and I will find my perfect grown up flip flop.

Here is what I have found in my online pre-shopping so far that might be acceptable. Any suggestions of grown up flip flops/sandals for short girls would be very welcome
I love these, but they are not very far off from basic flip flop land. I mean I guess I could hot glue some jewels onto my Haviannas if I really wanted to.

This is more along the lines of what I need, but I'm not paying $98 for some skinny leather covered in spangles. Thanks anyways J Crew

And last but not least, my favs. These are Dillard's brand, Gianni Bini and every time we go on store visits I find myself wandering over to the shoe dept to check them out. They break my rule of being near the ankles though so they are must try on. I hope they look wonderful!

Aging

This past week was my birthday week! It was action packed which made the answer to the question of "what are you doing for your birthday" an easy one. Here is what I got to do...

*Have lunch everyday with our wonderful vendors who came in town and graciously took me out
*Tear up the dance floor with my friends at the Red Cross 5 Carat ball (which I decided was really a huge birthday party for me)
*Keep the party rolling after the "ball" by going out and pretending that I was in college again
*Suffering my first hangover of my "late twenties" which are way worse than the ones of your "early twenties" because you have to wake up and go to work now
*Celebrate the wedding of a lovely friend tonight where more partying (but no hangovers) will probably occur: Congrats to Mr. and Mrs. Frith
*Sleep in late this morning (I think the pup could sense my need for sleep), wake up, cruise the blogs, and find this gem on a wonderful college friend's blog (Amanda's blog). *Le sigh* this makes me miss Texas very much.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to the best mom on the planet!!

And to the best Grandma too!!!

"You don't really understand human nature unless you know why a child on a merry-go-round will wave at his parents every time around-- and why his parents will always wave back." ~William D. Tammeus

Thanks for always being there to wave back at me. I love you both. XO

Empire State of Mind

Market week was crazzzzy, but fun. Had dinner Sunday night at the BEST Italian place on the upper East side called Uva. That was my fav meal of the week. All three photos from Uva website
The bar where the bartender got a kick out of my very Southern boss calling him sir.

The dining room. I wish my house looked like this place.

The patio where we ate. I think I'm still dreaming about that meal.

I tried to take the new camera for a spin, but only got a few pics. Between working and dragging myself to each appointment the chances for taking pictures weren't many. I managed to squeeze in a few:
My picture from the patio at Uva. The weather was amazing there last week.

Walking back from dinner one night. Tried out the night setting on my camera. Think I need to practice on night shots a bit more.

Empire State bldg from my hotel window. Didn't use the night setting this time, it worked much better without it.

View down Broadway to Times Square from the "terrace" of a vendor's showroom. Side note: at the moment I took this they were evacuating Times Square because a suspicious package had been found, I didn't know this though.

View down Broadway in the other direction.

Cool building down 34th (or maybe 33rd or even 35th, my sense of direction isn't too good). Love the zoom on this camera, it is pretty great.

Happy May Day

Its May Day which means officially 10 more days til my birthday! Weeeeee!! I am choosing to celebrate by not going into work today although I left work on Thursday (traveled on Friday to our New Orleans stores) with every intention of going in today. Oh well.

I will be out of pocket for the week (although, lets be real, even if I was here that doesn't mean the posting would happen). But I should have some great pics to share when I return. If I get to see and do anything other than work.

Ok off to get my day going...New York market means I get to go shopping for new market clothes! I mean I can't be attending a fashion market and deciding on watches for the world (ok maybe just America, the mid and southern American states that is) to buy if I'm not bringing the A game on the outfits, it just wouldn't be right. Hope today is a good dressing room day and everything looks good the instant I try it on! Wish me luck! Later.
